Konthayum Poonulum Review

Konthayum Poonulum Review
Konthayum Poonulum, the debut movie from Jijo Antony tried to be different in treatment but the end result is confusion as to what the makers have tried to convey. Is it a love story or a horror flick or a movie with some paranormal activity or a family drama? Can't make up my mind as the presentation as I said leaves the viewers in a dilemma.

The main plot is quite ok with Krishan ( Kunchacko) and Amritha (Bhama) occupying centre stage but this plot is left midway through and all the subplots which has no relevance to the main plot literally taking prominence. Couple of subplots and characters have connecting link with the main story but the majority of the plots have no relevance and it only adds to make the film a dragging affair though the film is not that long running close to only two hours. Even the subplots are left somewhere without showing what happened with it and the characters appearing in it.

Towards the end, story comes back to from where it all started but by that time the relevance of the plot takes a backseat and the viewers are in a confused state of mind. I agree, the film is from a newcomer trying to make a mark in the industry and he had a team of newcomers with him. But with this script he can't do much and I believe this is the maximum a debutant can do with such a storyline.

On the acting side, Kunchacko Boban doesn't have much to perform and he has done his part without much effort whereas Bhama appeared quite ok in that brief role. Manoj K Jayan, Janardhanan, Joy Mathew, Shine Tom Chacko, Shobha Mohan and Kalabhavan Mani are the notable ones among the supporting actors who were convincing in their respective roles.

Cinematography was good while cuts were fine. There is one song in the film composed by Maijo Joseph and sung by Unni Menon and this was a reasonably good melody. Background score by Maijo himself was appealing.

Overall, Konthayum Poonulum is a movie that fails to put together and convey what was intended making it a disappointing film and rating is two out of five.
